Royal Parrot Farm, LLC, based in Richmond, Texas, was originally founded by Darrel & Lorena Uselton as a privately funded conservatory for rare and endangered Macaw species, specifically the critically-endangered Blue Throated Macaw (ara glaucogularis), estimated to have less than 300 birds left in the wild. Through a dozen acquisitions of breeding pairs, Royal Parrot Farm believes it now manages one of the largest collections of Blue Throated Macaws in the United States and seeks primarily to raise future breeding pairs that have been parent-reared themselves.
Our program has expanded significantly to encompass other endangered species including the Red Fronted Macaw, the Illiger’s Mini-Macaw, and the famed Hyacinth Macaw, as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife restricted Golden Conure, otherwise known as the Queen of Bavaria Conure.
Although our goal is to parent-raise as many endangered species babies as possible, some require hand rearing each year and are available as companion pets, both wholesale to high-end bird stores (weaned or unweaned), or retail to the public (weaned only). Golden Conures are only available in Texas.
With several aviary acquisitions, Royal Parrot Farm also acquired a large number of Congo African Grey pairs, a few of the more common macaw pairs, several hybrid macaw pairs, and a few other misc. pairs. RPF offers these babies wholesale to registered pet industry retailers and professional hand feeders for the pet trade. Our largest production of babies for wholesale are by far, the Congo African Grey. Wholesale inquiries welcome from pet industry professionals with a Tax ID required. We also have available some breeding pairs and singles of various species for sale to other breeders at most times.
We regularly ship via Continental or Delta Airlines to anywhere in the continental United States.
RPF also operates www.SecondHandParrots.com which servers as an exotic bird dealer for companion parrots needing to find new homes. For more information, please visit the link above. RPF also maintains a significant sanctuary operation for unwanted pet parrots, retired breeders, and other parrots requiring special needs. RPF built and maintains a 4000 sq ft sanctuary building (entirely separated from the breeding facilities) and several large free-flight outdoor aviaries for birds unable or unwilling to be adopted and in need of permanent sanctuary.
Our breeder pairs, our "Second Hand Parrots" awaiting adoption, our sanctuary birds, and our pets, ALL receive the highest level of care with roomy enclosures, access to outdoor aviaries during good weather, abundant enrichment, plentiful restaurant quality diet, medical care, and environmental support daily.
Additionally, RPF is currently constructing the following educational sites/community portals, designed to further enhance awareness, education and discussion of these endangered, or critically endangered species:
Blue Throated Macaw
Golden Conures
Illigers Macaws
Red Fronted Macaws
Unlike many parrot breeders we’ve met, the owners of Royal Parrot Farm also share their home with a significant number of companion parrots.
Marcia the Greenwing Macaw, who started it all and was our first, is a daily delight with her kisses and mischief. Then there is Jack the blue crowned conure, Sunny the Sun Conure, Snow White the Triton Cockatoo, Patty the Scarlet Macaw, her buddy George the Scarlet Macaw, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra, our juvenile blue throated macaws, Pepper and Penny the red fronted macaws, Snickers the Blue Fronted Amazon, Ditto the Mexican Red Head (Green Cheek) Amazon (who thinks he’s a cat), Daisy and Dolly the Illiger Twins. We ran out of names, but we can’t forget the 3 pairs of juvenile white bellied caiques, two pairs of Rosellas, and a Port Lincoln Parrot. Last but not certainly not least, is our Timneh African Grey baby “ET”, who is dangerously close to weaning…finally!
This flock is closely guarded 24/7 by Osito the Yorkshire Terrier, and Walle the Long Haired Chiquaqua. Outside, our aviaries are guarded by Lulu the coon hound, Mindy the border collie, Barkley the beagle; Dusty, Dixie and baby miniature donkeys; Patches the painted Welch pony, and to round out the lot, are Lady’s Man, Arlo, Merlin, and Kane, the four alpaca banditos.
